Image Analysis:
I selected this image to analyse for my ‘movement’ project as I liked how it showed movement across many of the different elements in the photo.
In the picture, you can see a man throwing his daughter up into the sky. In the foreground, there is the sea which appears to be quite calm and in the background, you can see a sunset with lots of pink hues. I would say that the main focus of this image is the setting sun in the background, as it is the first place your eyes are drawn to when looking at the image. The colours in the photo are all warm, the sea is a mix of light orange and blue , where the light is reflecting off of it, and the sky starts grey and fades into a pinky orange colour before merging into a darker grey where it meets the sea.

The photo has been taken at a distance from the subjects and at a level viewpoint above the sea. I like how the photographer has composed this photo as the distance make sit seem as if views are looking at a scene unfolding. This also gives the photo a lighter mood to it as the subjects radiate emotions of happiness and joy which are reflected in the colours of the photo. The photo is lit purely by natural lighting which has given the image a soft glow from where it is backlit by the sky.
The photographer is showing suspended movement in this photograph, the purpose being to create a picture of a moment frozen in time, but still allowing viewers to visualize what happened before and after the photo was taken.
After looking at this image, I feel that I could develop my use of colour and distance in my photoshoot. I could do this by choosing a similar location to take photos when the sun is setting, and experiment with using static and moving subjects in photos to show different elements of suspended movement in my photography.
Compared to another photo I have seen, this one uses setting and mood in a very different way. The next photo by Gina Yeo gives off a much more striking impression. This is because of the high contrast in the photo between the lighter areas and darker areas in the photo. I think it is really effective how the clouds are quite dark, but the little girl is the darkest as it maker her seem very powerful whilst in the other image the girl seems much less dark which completely contrasts the way the setting was used in the photo by Anita Perminova.
